Jesus owns His glory.  It is His.  And we can see it.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory… (John 17:24)

Jesus is the perfect unveiling of God.  In Jesus we see both the glory of His divine nature and His human nature united in one Person.

Before Jesus came to earth Moses asked to see God’s glory.

18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

21 Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.”  (Exodus 33:18-23)

Jesus is the rock God hides us in so that we can see God’s glory and live forever in His presence.  To see God without Jesus would kill us.  Jesus’s statement that He was the only way to the Father.  A statement of love and life to spare us from certain destruction.

To see Jesus is to see the glory Moses was not allowed to see.  Jesus is the image of God and without Him God seems invisible to us.  We, who believe in Jesus, see God in a way that others cannot see God.

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.  (II Corinthians 4:4,6)

Just as darkness covered the earth in chaos until God spoke light and life into existence, so darkness covered our hearts until God spoke and brought us to life through the message of the good news of Jesus the Messiah.

What gift salvation is!  It is all grace!  The Lord removed the blindfold that hid Jesus from our eyes.  Once we saw who Jesus really is, we could not look away.  Something changed inside of us.  This new perception of Jesus drew us to Him in faith and now enables us to continue to look at Jesus as we grow in our likeness of Him.

We become what we behold.
